KIA Networking Event
The second and last Kakaako Improvement Association's Networking Event for 2018 is set for Wednesday, October 24th from 11:30am at the ANAHA condominium at the corner of Kamakee and Auahi streets. Free parking is at Ward Center, Ward Entertainment Center, or the parking lot by Pier 1, with entrance to the building on Auahi Street.
All those attending must have their name on the list in order to enter the condominium. This is a bring-your-own-lunch meeting, water will be provided. Be sure to bring business cards, brochures, flyers, etc. to share with fellow KIA members. Those interested in a tour of the building may stay after the meeting.
RSVP is needed by October 17th in order to enter the building. Email Sherry Goya, KIA Executive Director at sgoyallc@aol.com or text/call 808-722-8487 with name and company.
Remember to Vote!
Don't forget that Tuesday, November 6th is election day, and polls are open from 7am to 6pm. Early walk-in locations will open from October 23rd, with the last day being November 3rd. If you wish to receive a mail-in ballot, the deadline to request that is October 30th. For more information go to elections.hawaii.gov.
Pedestrian Safety
For KIA members who "live, work or play" in Kakaako, pedestrian safety is very important. With so many accidents happening around the island, here are some safety tips for all of us:
- Cross the street only at the corner or at a crosswalk. While crossing, keep to the right of the sidewalk.
- Be sure to look left-right-left before crossing and continue to look while crossing. Always walk across the street, never run.
- Walk on the sidewalk if there is one; if there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the roadway facing traffic.
- Watch for cars backing out of driveways; drivers don't always see you.
When crossing at a lighted intersection, be sure to use the pedestrian signal button and wait for the walk light indicator. Did you know that you cannot start walking when the numbers are counting down?
Planning for 2019
The KIA Board has already started discussion on speakers for the January 2019 KIA General Membership Meeting. KIA member Dave and Buster's has already reserved their meeting room for Wednesday, January 30 from 11:30am. If there are any topics of interest, please email Sherry Goya, KIA Executive Director at sgoyallc@aol.com and she will present to the Board at their November meeting.
