KIA General Membership Meeting

Over forty KIA members and guests attended the January 19th KIA General Membership Meeting at Dave & Buster’s on Wednesday, January 25th. The delicious bento lunch was provided by KIA and subsidized by Dave & Buster’s. The meeting started on time and ended within an hour and a half.

Lori Kahikina, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) had a very informative Powerpoint presentation. It included their project overview, with a map of the project route, forecast of project funding, and their progress toward completion. HART has provided many different outreaches to businesses and communities along the route, with ongoing communication. Photos of some of the stations were shown, as well as the Rail Operators Center in the Leeward area. Visit their website at www.honolulutransit.org for information and sign up for their meetings and weekly eBlast notifications.

From Kamehameha Schools was Emily Davids, a Planning and Development Manager, with projects including the Kaiāulu ʻo Kakaʻako Master Plan for the Our Kakaʻako community. Her PPT included an overview of their projects which is 29 acres of Mauka lands, originally planned for nine full-block parcels, 2,750+ residential units and 300,000 square feet of commercial space. Photos shared were of SALT, of the artwork throughout Kakaako, as well as the future outlook of the area.

The last PPT presentation was from Cord Anderson, a member of the development team at Ward Village for The Howard Hughes Corporation. He shared photos and talked about the projects which have recently been completed or have just begun. Ko`ula saw residents moving in last October, Victoria Ward Park Makai started construction to be completed in 2024, and The Park Ward Village started last October, with Ulana Ward Village starting in December, but both will be completed in 2025. There are vibrant streetscapes and parks along the HHC properties. Photos of the Auahi Street improvements showed the “before and after” results; and the Ala Moana Boulevard pedestrian overpass will be completed in late 2023.
